ES cell distribution from the MMRRC at UC Davis...

A distribution fee for archiving, expansion, and maintenance (see below) is charged per clone requested, plus shipping and handling fees; clones are available only for non-commercial, academic research purposes only at not-for-profit institutions. In addition, the MMRRC at UC Davis can assist you by performing microinjection and deriving live mice and/or embryos from these cells upon request. Further assistance, including genetic screening, multi-tier phenotyping, barrier housing, colony management, and other services are available upon request. Please check our services menu for more information regarding available services and fees.

Gene Trap ES cell lines...

The vast majority of Gene Trap cell lines have been correctly identified, as judged by DNA sequencing (i.e., repeat determination of the DNA sequence tag after expansion). However, incorrectly identified ES cell clones are occasionally encountered. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you confirm the identity of your ES cell line. There are two methods to do this:

1) Request verification of the identity of your ES cell line by clicking "yes" for "would you like sequence confirmation of the expanded ES cell line(s)" on the order form. With this option, we will repeat the appropriate RACE PCR on the expanded cell line to ensure that the sequence tag for the cell line is the same as the one posted on the website. There is an additional charge ($263, see table above) for DNA sequence verification of your clone, but that charge is well worth it in terms of your overall investment in a gene knockout project. Please be aware that expansion plus verification may require up to 10 weeks. No charges will apply if we are unable to confirm the identity of your requested cell line.

2) You may choose to re-verify yourself the ES cell line by RT-PCR and/or Southern blot analysis. Please see our protocol page for a protocol to assist with this. This option should be considered only if you are confident in your ability to sequence verify your requested ES cell clone. If so, then click "no" in the box regarding sequence confirmation on the order form.

Pathogen Screening...

All clones requested for distribution are tested for both Mycoplasma spp and MPV upon expansion of requested clones. These tests are included in the distribution fees, however if your institution requires a health report with the test results there will be a handling fee for processing. We can perform additional screening for other potential pathogens upon request; please contact us for more information as the fee will be based on the test(s) requested.

BayGenomics Gene Trap ES cell lines at MMRRC - UC Davis...

Through an exclusive agreement, the Mutant Mouse Regional Resource Center (MMRRC) at UC Davis distributes BayGenomics Gene Trap ES cell lines upon request to biomedical researchers.

  • If you would like to search the available Gene Trap ES cell library at BayGenomics to see if your gene has been "trapped", see “Searching for clones of interest” below for information regarding searching the MMRRC strain catalog and the IGTC database.

Most, but not all BayGenomics ES cell lines yield germline-transmitting chimeras. If more than one ES cell line is available for your "gene-of-interest", we recommend that you order several of the ES cell lines. Ordering more than one ES cell line for a specific "gene-of-interest" will increase the chances of success.

Parental cell line is E14TG2a.4

Soriano Gene Trap ES cell lines at the MMRRC - UC Davis...

Dr. Philippe Soriano of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine has also donated his valuable collection of Gene Trap ES cell clones to the MMRRC at UC Davis for distribution.

  • If you would like to search the available Soriano Gene Trap ES cell clones to see if your gene has been "trapped", see “Searching for clones of interest” below for information regarding searching the MMRRC strain catalog and the IGTC database.

Parental cell line is AK7

Wellcome-Trust Sanger Institute Gene Trap ES cell lines at the MMRRC - UC Davis...

Dr. Allan Bradley of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute has also donated his valuable collection of Sanger Institute Gene Trap Resource (SIGTR) ES cell clones to the MMRRC at UC Davis for distribution.

  • If you would like to search the available SIGTR Gene Trap ES cell library to see if your gene has been "trapped", you can search the SIGTR database, or see “Searching for clones of interest” below for information regarding searching the MMRRC strain catalog and the IGTC database.

Parental cell line is E14TG2a.4

Other cell lines at the MMRRC at UC Davis...

The MMRRC at UC Davis also holds ES cell lines from other institutions; please browse the strain catalog to find a cell line of interest.

Searching for clones of interest…

You can browse the MMRRC strain catalog for available ES cell clones and mouse strains by gene of interest. It is sometimes helpful to search for the current gene symbol in the Mouse Genome Informatics prior to use for searching the MMRRC catalog. Additionally, you can search the International Gene Trap Consortium (IGTC) for gene trap ES cell clones held not only at the MMRRC, but other resources as well.
